Lottery reveals next Mumbai Mayor will be from open category; Shiv Sena in a favourable position to win

The Mumbai Mayor elections are all set to take place on November 22 and this year, the seat will be reserved for the open category. A lottery system is used to decide to what category should go to and this year the seat has fallen under open category. Meanwhile, Shiv Sena are the favourites to win the Mayor elections since they have the numbers in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

However, this year, there is more than one candidate who intends to become Mumbai Mayor from the regional saffron party in Maharashtra. Various senior leaders from Shiv Sena like Yashwant Jadhav, Kishori Pednekar, Mangesh Satamkar, Ashish Chemburkar are being considered for the candidature of the mayor.

The alliance between age-old ideological partners, Shiv Sena and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has taken a heavy blow after the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly Elections. This will certainly have a notable effect in the upcoming elections for Mumbai Mayor as BJP will be a worthy opponent for Sena. Therefore, the Uddhav Thackeray-led party intends to find a worthy candidate.

After six Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) corporators shifted to Shiv Sena, its hold in BMC strengthened.

Therefore, in order to ensure that they have the right candidate to lead the party in the municipal corporation, Sena is strongly believed to provide candidature to Standing Committee Chief Yashwant Jadhav.
