There is a tug-of-war going on between Shiv Sena and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over an exemption of property tax on houses up to 500 square feet and 750 sq ft, respectively. Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis added fuel to the fire by giving a green signal for both the projects.
In the legislative assembly, Mumbai's BJP president Ashish Shelar said that BJP supports Sena’s exemption of property tax on houses up to 500 sq ft. demand but at the same time, he also demanded that instead of giving a waiver of 60 per cent on houses up to 500 sq ft. to 750 sq ft., the same should be waived off on houses up to 750 sq ft. With this decision, Shelar said that the BMC will have to take burden only of ₹60 to ₹70 Cr.
While replying to Shelar, CM Fadnavis gave an approval to Sunil Prabhu’s demand of exempting property tax on houses up to 500 sq ft and Shelar’s demand of exempting property tax on houses up to 700 sq ft.
