The Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Highway, which connects the state capital and the vice-capital, has become a breeding ground for corruption. The highway, which was worth INR 55,000 crore, has gone up to INR 70,000 crore. Congress state president Harshvardhan Sapkal on Thursday alleged that the cost of the project has been inflated by INR 15,000 crore and there has been massive corruption in it. He also demanded that if there is any morality left in the government, a white paper should be released on the Samruddhi Highway project.

The final stretch of the Maharashtra Samruddhi Highway from Igatpuri to Aamne was inaugurated by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday.  In this context, while speaking to media representatives, Sapkal raised questions about the cost of the Samruddhi Highway.

Like the Ghodbunder-Bhayander project, there has been a lot of corruption in the Samruddhi Highway project, and Fadnavis and Eknath Shinde's henchmen have profited greatly from it. Sapkal criticised the move of splitting Shiv Sena was made possible through Samruddhi's corrupt money.

He demanded the release of a white paper to present a detailed account before the public, including the total cost of the Samruddhi Mahamarg, the expenditure on each bridge, the cost per kilometer, the amount paid for land acquisition, payments made to contractors, the expenses incurred for tree plantation, and the revenue being collected through tolls.
