Maharashtra Congress spokesperson Sachin Sawant demanded the Election Commission (EC) to file a case against Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for violating the code of conduct. Sawant alleged that CM violated the code of conduct while campaigning for the Palghar Lok Sabha bypoll.

He also alleged that the Maharashtra EC was working on the behest of the Maharashtra government. A delegation of Congress led by Sachin Sawant went to Delhi to met EC’s commissioner Omprakash Rawat and lodged a complaint regarding the rigging in the Palghar by-election, filing a case against Fadnavis.

Talking to the media after his meet with EC commissioner, Sawant said that BJP wasted money like water to win the Palghar bypoll and misused its power. He further added that the CM even spoke about winning the election by any means – talking about Sam, Dam, Dand, Bhed.

“We do not have faith in the local authorities and this is why we have come here,” said Sawant, adding that “we have registered seven cases with EC and we hope that the appropriate action will be taken against the concerned people.”

Earlier, many opposition parties stood against the BJP during the Palghar Lok Sabha bypoll including its ally Shiv Sena for disrupting the EVMs.
