Veteran Congress leader Eknath Gaikwad dies of COVID-19

The second wave of coronavirus has been wreaking havoc across the nation. Many people have been impacted due to the same. On Wednesday, veteran Congress leader Eknath Gaikwad too passed away after battling this deadly virus. 

Eknath Gaikwad, father of state's Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad. He was undergoing treatment in Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital.

Maharashtra State Youth Congress leader Satyajeet Tambe broke the news on Twitter as he said, "Congress Party's senior leader, Ex-MP, Ex-Minister Eknath Gaikwad Ji passed away today. My deepest condolences to his daughter and Education Minister of Maharashtra @VarshaEGaikwad, Gaikwad family and his friends/supporters".

As soon as the news broke message of condolences started pouring in. Baramati MP and senior NCP leader Supriya Sule tweeted, “Former MP Eknath Gaikwad, father of senior Congress leader and Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad, has passed away. He is one of the most popular leaders in Mumbai.”

MP Eknath Gaikwad was 81 years old. He has been a Member of the Legislative Assembly from Dharavi and been representing that area since 1985. In the 2004 Lok Sabha elections, Gaikwad defeated the former chief minister Manohar Joshi from the Mumbai South Central constituency.
