Congress spokesperson Sachin Sawant met Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh and has demanded a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the culprits behind social media racket used to defame Maharashtra government.

“The IT cell of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has created thousands of fake Twitter and Facebook accounts via some agencies in connection with the Sushant Singh Rajput death case to tarnish the image of Mumbai Police and Maharashtra government. This is a new form of terrorism and in order to find the mastermind behind it, SIT should be formed,” Sawant said.

A delegation of Congress leaders led by Sawant met the Mumbai Police Commissioner on Wednesday and submitted a memorandum demanding to burst the BJP-driven social media terrorism. Sawant was accompanied by Dr Raju Waghmare, Ratnakar Singh and others

Moreover, the names and data of the companies allegedly involved in this conspiracy were also handed over to the police commissioner by the Congress delegation.

Speaking to the media, Sawant said that the BJP had systematically maligned the image of Maharashtra government via social media. Thousands of fake Twitter and Facebook accounts were opened overnight, he added.

“These accounts were used to discredit Mumbai Police. These accounts tweeted and retweeted only with hashtags that claimed ‘SSRNotSuicideItsMurder’ ‘BollywoodCleanup’, ‘DruggieDeepika’, ‘ShameOnMumbaiPolice’,” the Congress leader said.

The behavioural pattern of these twitter handles, the history of their tweets and frequency of their retweets suggest that it was a well thought planned conspiracy against the Maharashtra government, he added.

“No normal real user of twitter of Facebook would tweet/post at a rate of 40 thousand tweets in 3 months. On many days, most of these twitter handles have retweeted at a rate of 25 tweets per minutes. And did this around a common subject. SSR. Their hashtags too were common.” Sawant tweeted.

He further informed that the target of this campaign was to paint a picture that the Mumbai Police is trying to push the matter under to carpet as the Chief Minister is desperate to save his son.
