Ahead of the upcoming elections in Maharashtra and the Centre, Congress along with Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in Maharashtra decided to form an alliance with the like-minded parties to defeat Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the year 2019. However, the dream of Congress-NCP mega-alliance is in question. 

Maharashtra Congress President Ashok Chavan has planned a meeting to discuss the 48 Lok Sabha constituency seats with all the possible candidates. However, NCP has objected to the same and has demanded to contest elections with an equal share of seats. As this happened, the future of Congress-NCP alliance is in question in the upcoming polls.

Earlier in 2014, Congress and NCP contested elections on 27 and 21 Lok Sabha seats, respectively. However, Congress could only manage to win two seats while NCP won four seats. Moreover, a month before the 2014 general assembly elections, NCP withdraw from the 15-year-long alliance with Congress and decided to contest the elections alone but only to fail. 

Earlier, during a meeting with Congress President Rahul Gandhi, NCP chief Sharad Pawar had spoken about fighting the elections with an equal share of seats. Meanwhile, Congress has organised a meeting with the possible candidates in this regard on November 15 to November 17.
