On Monday, Mumbai Congress Chief Sanjay Nirupam has asked Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to scrap the ongoing redevelopment of Dhobi Ghat under the SRA scheme. He wrote a letter to the Chief Minister requesting the same.

Last week, he accused Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) of illegally granting permission for the amalgamation of Dhobi Ghat near Mahalaxmi along with the nearby temples under the Slum Redevelopment Scheme (SRA).

He said that the Congress party has already exposed the vested interests of BMC’s Chief Ajoy Mehta through a letter dated August 13, 2018, which was written by Chief Engineer (Development Plan) to the architect.

He added that amalgamation of this 140-year old heritage site should not be allowed under the SRA Scheme and requested the CM to immediately stay BMC’s action for the site preservation.

Meanwhile, he clarified that he is not against the redevelopment of Dhobi Ghat but only wants interests of the residents to be protected.
