Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Maharashtra legislative Assembly, Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday said that the ratio of the positive cases in Maharashtra was three times that of the national average. The ratio of positive cases in even more in Mumbai, Fadnavis added.

“The ratio of positive cases in Maharashtra is 3 times than that of national average & in Mumbai it is even more. This shows that spread is much more in Maharashtra (sic),” former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis tweeted.

Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Devendra Fadnavis alleged that the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government was making false claims of higher tests being carried out. Despite the facilities to carry out 10,000 tests per day, only 4,000 to 4,500 tests are being done, he added.

The BJP leader further highlighted that Mumbai and Maharashtra had a positivity rate of 13.17 per cent and 12.43, respectively, as per the tests conducted till May 18. This was high than the national average of 4.17 per cent, Fadnavis claimed.

Furthermore, the BJP leader said that if the repetitive tests of a single person were to be eliminated, Mumbai’s positivity rate stands at around 22 per cent. The testing number also includes multiples tests of a single person and positive patients need to be tested negative on two consecutive days to get discharged.

“In such a scenario more focus should be on testing in Mumbai. We won’t be able to solve the problem unless we acknowledge the crisis are prepared for it. Just claim of higher tests won’t save out citizens from coronavirus,” said Fadnavis.

The BJP in Maharashtra has launched “Maharashtra Bachao Andolan” (Save Maharashtra protest) against the Shiv Sena-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government to highlight its failure in handling the coronavirus situation, the migrant crisis among other issues.
