Maharashtra Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat lashed out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over its call for protest against Shiv Sena-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government.

Maharashtra Congress President Balasaheb Thorat said that the “Maharashtra Bachao Andolan” (Save Maharashtra Protest) was not for saving Maharashtra but the BJP itself.

In a statement, the state Revenue Minister said that BJP was protesting to show its presence and it was not a ‘Save Maharashtra’ agitation but a save ‘BJP’ one. This agitation was aimed at underscoring the existence of the BJP which was not seen anywhere in the fight against coronavirus, he added.

“The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government are working day and night to fight the coronavirus outbreak. However, BJP which is not in the seen has started a farcical protest to show its presence,” Thorat said.

Thorat alleged that Fadnavis chose to contribute money to PM-CARES fund rather than helping the state. His (Devendra Fadnavis’) loyalties belonged to BJP leaders in Delhi and not Maharashtra, Balasaheb Throat asserted.

The behaviour of BJP in the state during such crisis is nothing but Maharashtradroh (treason with Maharashtra), Thorat said.

On Tuesday, a delegation led by Devendra Fadnavis met Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari and submitted a memorandum highlighting the “infective handling” of the COVID-19 situation in Maharashtra.

Devendra Fadnavis said that the Maharashtra government has completely failed over several fronts and demanded a special economic package for the state on the lines of the one announced by the centre.

The BJP in Maharashtra has launched “Maharashtra Bachao Andolan” (Save Maharashtra Protest) to highlight the “ineffective handling” of COVID-19 situation in the state by Shiv Sena-led MVA government.

The saffron party has appealed people to protest outside their house on May 22 to highlight the failure of Shiv Sena-led MVA government in handling COVID-19 situation.
