Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday targeted Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray for being “indecisive” over the COVID-19 situation in the state. Fadnavis said that this was causing the situation to worsen.

While talking to journalists via video conferencing, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Devendra Fadnavis said that the Chief Minister was “scared’ of taking initiatives to deal with the COVID-19 situation.

Former Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis further pointed out that there are no beds in Mumbai for COVID-19 patients in government hospitals while claiming that half of the beds in intensive care units (ICUs) of private hospitals are lying vacant.

Private hospitals are charging ₹30,000 per day from the COVID-19 patients for a bed and these hospitals are only giving beds to those who can pay, Fadnavis said while adding that this was happening even after the Maharashtra government said that 80 per cent of beds in private hospitals will be reserved for it.

Earlier, Maharashtra Public Health Minister Rajesh Tope informed that the private hospitals will have to follow the same and 80 per cent will have a charge fixed by the state government.

During his virtual interaction, Devendra Fadnavis said that the indecisiveness is the biggest problem of the Uddhav Thackeray government in dealing with COVID-19 crisis. The Chief Minister is new and scared of taking action and relies a lot on bureaucracy, he added.

Fadnavis went on to say that there were factions within the bureaucracy as well and there was a lack of assertiveness of political leadership to coordinate them.

The BJP in Maharashtra has launched “Maharashtra Bachao Andolan” (Save Maharashtra Protest) to highlight the “ineffective handling” of COVID-19 situation in the state by Shiv Sena-led MVA government.

The saffron party has appealed people to protest outside their house with black flags on May 22 to highlight the failure of Shiv Sena-led MVA government in handling COVID-19 situation.
