Maharashtra Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Chandrakant Patil on Wednesday slammed the Uddhav Thackeray government over the rising COVID-19-related deaths in the state.

In a video message, Patil compared the fatalities in Maharashtra with that of Kerala and said that the state government here failed to check the spread of the coronavirus or COVID-19.

On Tuesday, nearly 2,100 fresh COVID-19 cases were reported in Maharashtra, taking the toll in the state to 37,136. Moreover, 76 deaths were also recorded in the state during the day and the death toll has risen to 1,325.

The senior BJP leader alleged that the health infrastructure in Mumbai has collapsed completely as the city alone has 22,746 COVID-19 cases and the death toll in the financial capital has climbed up to 800.

Amid such crisis, Patil pointed out that the Uddhav Thackeray government has failed to announce any package for the poor and needy. Earlier, for Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also demanded an economic stimulus package for the state.

Comparing Kerala’s COVID-19 performance with Maharashtra, Patil said that the first case here was reported on March 9 and is nearing 40,000-mark while Kerala also reported its first case on the same day but their cases have remained under 1,000 in a duration of 70 days.

“The deaths in Kerala have remained under 12. On the other hand, Maharashtra has crossed 1,300 in fatalities. This underlines the failures of Uddhav Thackeray government,” Chandrakant Patil said while adding that people can’t stop themselves from expressing their anger against the government in such crisis and the BJP is also taking a stand.

Patil, in a video message, appealed the people to protest outside their house wearing black masks, holding black placard between 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM on May 22. Everyone should follow social distancing normswhile protesting, the Maharashtra BJP President added.

On Tuesday, a delegation of BJP leaders led by Devendra Fadnavis submitted a memorandum to Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari to highlight the “inefficient handling” of COVID-19 situation by the MVA government.

Meanwhile, the BJP leaders and workers also submitted memorandums to all the tehsils and district collectors to register protest against the government while launching Maharashtra Bachao Andolan (Save Maharashtra).
