Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut on Wednesday demanded a special package for Mumbai which has become a coronavirus hotspot while welcoming the special economic package announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Raut, Shiv Sena MP, said that Mumbai should get the maximum benefit from the economic package and the city’s importance as the country’s financial capital should remain.

While pointing out that the workers are leaving from Mumbai as they have no work, Raut said, “Mumbai’s importance as the financial capital of the country should be sustained. The Centre should announce a special package for Mumbai and other cities which create jobs.”

Raut further stated that the Shiv Sena has welcomed the special economic package announced by Narendra Modi while adding that this was not a time to criticise and extended his support to the Prime Minister.

“This is no time to be critical. The whole country stands with the Prime Minister during these testing times,” Raut said while adding that Mumbai should get the maximum benefit out of the total packaged announced by Modi.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a special economic package of ₹20 lakh crore as the nation combats the spread of the coronavirus outbreak while stating that this package will make India self-reliant.

“This economic package is for the farmer and labourer of the country who are working day and night for the countrymen in every situation and in every season. This economic package is for the middle class of our country which pays taxes honestly and contributes to the development of the country,” Narendra Modi said while adding that the economic package was for small-scale industries and the MSME sectors.

Meanwhile, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday released the second tranche of the ₹20 lakh crore economic package with a focus on migrant workers, street vendors and farmers. The Finance Minister announced ‘One nation, one ration card’ scheme under which the public distribution cards can be used in any ration shops irrespective of the states.
