The Bombay High Court on Thursday directed the police and the state government to submit the CCTV camera footage from the bungalow of Maharashtra Housing Minister Jitendra Awhad to the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Thane.

Along with this, the Bombay HC has also asked that the call records of police officers and others be retrieved and submitted. The high court was hearing a petition filed by one Anant Karmuse seeking an FIR against Awhad.

Justice GS Kulkarni issued a notice to the Thane CP and DGP on the petition filed by Karmuse seeking an FIR against Awhad and police officers who allegedly took him to the minister’s bungalow and beat him up. The case will be heard on April 30.

The lawyers - Anirudh Ganu and Nilesh Tribhuvan - representing Karmuse stated that at 11:50 PM on April 5, four police officers claimed that they are taking him to the police station for investigation but they took him Jitendra Awhad’s bungalow instead.

15 to 20 people were already present at Awhad’s residence who thrashed Karmuse with bamboo sticks, belts and iron rods on his hands and back.

Meanwhile, Jitendra Awhad has been tested positive for the coronavirus or COVID-19 and is admitted at Fortis Hospital in Mulund. The 54-year-old minister was taken to a hospital in Thane but was later shifted to Fortis hospital. Awhad had put himself under home quarantine along with 15 members of his family for a week after some of his security staff had tested positive for COVID-19.

Earlier, a 40-year-old year man named Anant Karmuse filed a police complaint alleging that he has been beaten by the men of Maharashtra Minister Jitendra Awhad at his bungalow.

Karmuse, an engineer by profession, has alleged that the policemen took him to NCP leader Jitendra Awhad’s bungalow instead of the police station where the minister’s men thrashed him with a bamboo stick and belt. The man, in his complaint, has also alleged that Jitendra Awhad was also present.

Karmuse had posted a morphed photo with Jitendra Awhad’s face and a lit-up match stick with a caption, “I protest against the person who has edited the photo.” This happened on April 5 when Prime Minister Narendra Modi had asked people to light candles and ‘diyas’ to fight the “darkness of the coronavirus”.
