Mumbai's lifeline, the local train service, has been shut down for the general public due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and this has raised concerns for the public as they are not able to commute in the preferred mode of transport.

However, with reducing COVID cases, people around the city have been demanding for the train services to resume. Several opposition parties have also urged the government to consider the same and keeping the suggestions and requests in mind, officials from the state government have been discussing the matters for a few weeks.

It is being said that the local train services are likely to resume for those who have taken both the doses of coronavirus vaccine. Information regarding the same was shared by Minister Chhagan Bhujbal during an interaction with the journalists in Nashik.

Sharing more information regarding other matters, he said, "Discussions are held to extend the operational time of shops and if to keep them closed for one day over the weekend. To control the spread further, officials have been mulling over reopening malls at 50 per cent capacity only and the same could apply for educational institutions too. However, final decisions are yet to be taken," he said.

Considerations are being made keeping the suggestions of COVID task force in mind. Decisions will be taken after thoroughly observing and studying the COVID crisis patterns in India and abroad, said Minister Bhujbal. He added that despite a complete lockdown being imposed in Kerala, the situation has not improved completely.

While the people have these demands and the inputs are being considered, announcements will be made only if the task force and health officials confirm the same. Matters are being discussed with the Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray who will announce final decision.
