The Election Commission of India on Monday, January 29, announced that elections for 56 Rajya Sabha seats in 15 states will be held on February 27.

The last date for filing nomination papers will be February 15. Voting will take place between 09:00 am to 04:00 pm and counting of votes will also take place on the same day.

The maximum number of seats, 10, are from the state of Uttar Pradesh, followed by Bihar and Maharashtra. Bihar and Maharashtra have six Rajya Sabha seats each. West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh have five Rajya Sabha seats each, followed by Karnataka with four seats. Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Rajasthan have three seats each. Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand have one seat each in the Upper House.

The tenure of the State Council members elected from states other than Odisha and Rajasthan is scheduled to expire on April 2, 2024. For members elected from Odisha and Rajasthan, the term of office is scheduled to end on April 3.

Sixty-eight Rajya Sabha members are set to retire in 2024. Polls were held on January 19 for three Rajya Sabha seats in Delhi and one seat in Sikkim.
