Former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Sardar Tara Singh died on Saturday morning due to prolonged illness. Singh, former MLA from Mulund assembly constituency, was undergoing treatment at Lilavati Hospital in Bandra.

The 82-year-old BJP leader was undergoing treatment at the private hospital in Bandra for various illnesses, Kirit Somaiya informed.

“My senior colleague, BJP leader Sardar Tarasing, after prolonged illnesses died at Lilavati Hospital today morning, Ishwar un ki Atma ko Shanti De Prarthana (sic),” Somaiya tweeted.

Sardar Tara Singh started his career from Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and has also served as a corporator. He was elected four times as the member of legislative assembly (MLA) from Mulund.

Singh’s colleagues in the BJP took to social media to pay him tribute. Mangal Prabhat Lodha, Mumbai BJP President, expressed sorrow over the passing away of his colleague.

“A vacuum has been created by his passing away. May Waheguru grant moksh to his soul and give the family strength to bear the irreparable loss,” Lodha said.

Sachin Ahir, Shiv Sena leader, also paid tribute to Tara Singh saying that he was one of the finest people who served the society selflessly.

BJP had dropped Tara Singh’s name from the 2019 Maharashtra assembly elections after his son - Ranjeet Singh - was arrested in connection with the Punjab and Maharashtra Co-operative Bank (PMC) Bank scam.
