Former chief minister and leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis has been very vocal about the practices that the MVA government has been adopting to tackle the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in the state. Earlier in the week, he had commented that Maharashtra has become the COVID capital of India

He has now taken to pointing out the high fatality rate in the city of Mumbai. While the number of cases in the city has started coming down, the state of Maharashtra continues to increase at an alarming rate, On Thursday, Maharashtra added 14,492 new cases. This is the second consecutive day that the state posted a new high. On August 19 too Maharashtra had recorded 13,165 new cases. On Thursday the death toll of the state was over 300-mark with 326 people succumbing to the disease.

On Tuesday, Fadnavis raising the issue of the fatality rate wrote a letter to the Cheif Minister Uddhav Thackeray. In his letter, Fadnavis notes that Mumbai's fatality rate in the last 17 days has been recorded at 5.40 per cent. He even brought to the notice that while the national average had dropped 1.92 per cent, Mumbai continues to be significantly higher than the national average.

Fadnavis also pushed for higher testing in Mumbai. He mentioned that the only way to tackle Coronavirus is through aggressive testing. The positive patients have to be identified early on, isolated and treated. In his letter, Fadnavis also mentioned that currently around 7,000 tests are being carried out daily, but considering the population of the city that are far too less.
