Mumbai – The results of 165 municipal councils and Nagar Panchayats from 25 districts were declared on Monday. The Congress party could not secure the expected success in these elections. Senior Congress leader and former chief minister Narayan Rane has blamed MPCC chief Ashok Chavan for the debacle of the party in these elections. He also alleged that unqualified candidates were given tickets by taking money from them. With these allegation from the senior leader, there seems all is not well in the Congress party. Meanwhile, Ashok Chavan refuted Rane’s allegations and said that such a thing has not happened during my tenure. The BJP has misused its government. All leaders in the party will decide the outcomes of local bodies elections and I won’t comment further on this, Chavan made it clear. Leader of opposition in the Assembly, Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil had claimed that former revenue minister Balasaheb Thorat had extended help to defeat Chavan’s candidate in the MLC polls but this issue will also be solved in the party leaders’ meeting, said Chavan.
