Maharashtra will conduct its State Assembly elections on November 20, 2024. Voting will take place in all 288 constituencies in a single phase. The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) and the ruling Mahayuti alliance will face off in a critical contest. Results will be announced on November 23. 

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced these guidelines for smooth voting: 

  1. Voters can locate their polling stations online by entering their EPIC number at the electoral search website.

  2. They can also use the "Find your name in the electoral roll" option on the Voter Helpline App to locate polling places. 

  3. Voters must carry one of twelve accepted ID forms to vote. 

  4. Accepted IDs are Aadhaar card, Driver's license, passport, voter ID card, service ID card, bank or post office passbook with photo, PAN card, NPR smart card, MGNREGA ID card, labour health insurance card, pensions document, and disability card

  5. To avoid the heat, voters are advised to cast the ballot in the morning and wear caps and goggles.

  6. After casting their vote, voters must check the VVPAT slip to confirm their choice.

  7. Voters are advised to report any code violations using the cVIGIL app. 

List of prohibited items:

  1. Weapons, explosives, and other dangerous objects are expressly forbidden in voting places, according to Section 13(4) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. 

  2. Any attempt to influence or intimidate voters, whether by compulsion or incentive, is a serious felony. 

  3. Offering gifts, bribes, or any other kind of inducement to influence a voter's choice is also illegal.

  4. Mobile phones are banned within 100 meters of polling stations, even if turned off. 

  5. Photography and videography are also prohibited.

Amenities for Voters:

  1. Pregnant women, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities will receive priority voting. 

  2. Waiting areas will have fans, water bottles, and tokens.

  3. There will be basic amenities such as restrooms, drinking water, seating areas, and medical kits. 

  4. Special arrangements have been made for differently-abled voters. 1950 hotline will assist them with transport. 

  5. Polling stations will have wheelchairs and ramps. Vehicles are assigned to pick up voters with disabilities from designated locations in Mumbai and its suburbs.

In order to maintain peaceful polling, the EC has also ordered dry days during the voting period. The state has banned the sale of alcohol on:

  1. November 20: Until 6:00 pm.

  2. November 23: Until 6:00 pm.

Here are some of the important statistics:

  1. 1,02,29,706 total registered voters

  2. 54,67,361 men, 

  3. 47,61,263 women, and 

  4. 1,082 voters in the third gender category

  5. 23,927 voters above 85 years of age

  6. 6,272 Home voting

  7. 1,475 are service voters. 

  8. 2,288 foreign voters. 

  9. 420 total candidates
