The Khatua committee appointed by the Maharashtra government has recommended that the retirement age of government officials should remain 58 years. The committee has ruled that the age of retirement can’t be increased to 60 years.
Earlier, there was a demand that the retirement age of government officials and employees should be increased to 60 years instead of 58. The Maharashtra government had set up a committee to look into the demands. The retirement age of central government employees is 60 years while it differs from state to state.
However, Maharashtra State Gazetted Officers Federation has opposed this saying that the report of Khatua Committee on raising the retirement age was ineffective and incomprehensible.
The recommendations made by the Khatua committee on the issue are as follows:
The committee appointed by the government brought out the report under the chairmanship of BC Khatua. The report was finally obtained with the help of the Right of Information (RTI) act.
However, the Maharashtra State Gazetted Officers Federation has opposed the recommendations made by the committee in its report. It said that this was the first document to be presented in an irresponsible manner.
