Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday informed that the state culture department has prepared Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for reopening the cinema halls and multiplexes.
The SOP is being finalised to ensure the safety of movie-goers amid the coronavirus pandemic and a decision to reopen cinema halls will be taken soon, Thackeray said while talking to the owners of multiplexes and cinemas via video conference.
The cinema halls have been shut since March this due to the coronavirus lockdown. However, the Chief Minister said that the government was positive about reopening cinema halls and multiplexes once the SOPs are finalised.
“The government is positive about reopening cinema halls. The entertainment industry is one of the major sources for state’s economy and the government was eager to restart it,” Thackeray said.
The Maharashtra government is initiating the unlocking process under ‘Mission Begin Again’ in a staggered manner. Recently, it allowed the metro and monorail services to operate for general passengers. The metro administration informed that it will start its operation from October 19 while the monorail will be back on track from October 18.
Earlier, the Maharashtra government allowed the liquor shops, bars and restaurants to operate in the state while following the COVID-19 protocols and rules.
People are confined for two hours in one room and it was important to ensure that no one gets infected by maintaining cleanliness and sanitisation while practising social distancing norms, Thackeray said while adding that only 50 per cent seats should be occupied.
