Shiv Sena corporator Sheetal Mhatre asked the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to remove the illegal mannequins which display women’s lingerie stating that they are “very embarrassing for women”.

Mhatre, who is also the BMC Law Committee chairperson, directed the BMC administration to take strict action against those displaying unauthorised lingerie mannequins. Mhatre also asserted that the license of those at fault will be cancelled. The order for the same was passed on Monday in a meeting carried out by the law committee.

Mhatre further informed that in the last six years, this proposal has come multiple times before the law committee. “However, it seems like BMC has no power to act against those displaying unauthorised lingerie mannequins,” she added.

The Shiv Sena corporator further said that women know where to buy lingerie and there’s no need to advertise it. Mhatre asserted that there is a proper way to display the same and in some places, the mannequins busts are hanging on tree branches which makes it “very embarrassing for women”.
