With the launch of a COVID-19 testing laboratory in Osmanabad district, the total number of labs has reached 131 which was just one at the start of the coronavirus pandemic.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday launched a COVID-19 testing laboratory at the sub-centre of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University in Osmanabad via video conference.

While speaking at the launch, Thackeray informed that Maharashtra now has 131 COVID-19 testing labs across the state. He said that the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government was trying to provide all healthcare facilities to the people in Maharashtra.

“It is my dream to make Maharashtra a state which has the best healthcare facilities. This dream is not limited to the country but I want Maharashtra to have the highest healthcare infrastructure in the world,” the Chief Minister said.

Thackeray further said that after the coronavirus crisis is over a section in each laboratory will continue to focus on the research work. He also talked about setting up a task force at district-level and corona vigilance committees in every village.

While expressing his gratitude for those who helped in setting up the testing lab, the Chief Minister appealed the people to remain cautious saying that the rules should be followed by everyone to stop the spread of the coronavirus.

“We are opening testing labs wherever there is a requirement but the numbers won’t matter unless we take care of our selves by washing hands, wearing masks and practising social distancing,” he said while adding that this war can’t be won unless the vaccine comes.

Maharashtra Public Health Minister Rajesh Tope, who was present at the occasion, said that staff assigned for the COVID-19 testing lab should be trained and informed that the laboratory was eligible for all types of tests which will help the district become self-sufficient.
