The assembly elections in Maharashtra are scheduled on October 21 and people will vote to elect their representative in 288 constituencies across the state.

Of the 288 assembly seats, Wadala is the 180th constituency in Maharashtra which is a part of Mumbai city and comes under the city's South Central Parliamentary constituency.

Under the Mumbai South Central Lok Sabha constituency, the assembly constituencies include Anushakti Nagar, Chembur, Dharavi, Sion Koliwada, Wadala and Mahim.

In Wadala constituency, the prominent faces which are contesting the assembly polls in 2019 include Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Kalidas Kolambkar, Congress' Shivkumar Lad and Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi's (VBA) Laxman Pawar.

Seven-time MLA, Kalidas Kolambkar recently joined BJP and left Congress ahead of the upcoming assembly polls. In the 2009 and 2014 assembly polls, Kolambkar was the winning candidate from the Wadala assembly constituency.

However, in 2014 the number of votes Kolambkar received was less as compared to 2009. Kolambkar defeated Shiv Sena's Digambara Dattaram Kandarkar in the 2009 assembly polls.
