The assembly elections in Maharashtra are scheduled on October 21 and people will vote to elect their representative in 288 constituencies across the state. 

Of the 288 assembly seats, Mankhurd Shivaji Nagar is the 171st constituency in Maharashtra which is a part of Mumbai suburban district and comes under the city's North-East Parliamentary constituency. 

Under the Mumbai North-East Lok Sabha constituency, the assembly constituency includes Vikhroli, Ghatkopar West, Ghatkopar East, Mulund Bhandup West and Mankhurd Shivaji Nagar. 

Of the total 3,02,481 voters in Mankhurd Shivaji Nagar assembly constituency, 1,76,379 are males while 1,26,095 are female voters. 


Contenders 

In Mankhurd Shivaji Nagar constituency, the prominent faces which are contesting the assembly polls in 2019 include Shiv Sena's Vitthal Govind Lokare, Samajwadi Party's (SP) Abu Asim Azmi and NDA candidate Gautam Sonwane. 

Sitting SP MLA Abu Azmi is the biggest face from Mankhurd Shivaji Nagar constituency in the assembly elections. Azmi has been a two time MLA from the same constituency. 


Result in Previous polls

Earlier in 2009, Azmi won the assembly polls from Mankhurd constituency against Congress candidate Syed Ahmad by a huge margin. Azmi registered 38,435 votes while Ahmad stayed on 24,318.

During the 2014 Maharashtra assembly elections, Azmi won again against Shiv Sena candidate Suresh Krushnarao Patil with a margin of 10,000 votes. Yet again in 2019, a Shiv Sena candidate will contest against Azmi from the same constituency. 

Shiv Sena has fielded Vitthal Lokare even after Republican Party of India (A), member of the Nationalist Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Maharashtra, fielded Gautam Sonawane. 


Problems in Mankhurd Shivaji Nagar constituency

In 2014, Mankhurd Shivaji Nagar assembly constituency had 41 per cent voter turnout. The constituency faces trouble with kids who are into drugs. The region has become a hub of mass murders and other crimes. 

Due to dumping ground, a large population is troubled by Tuberculosis and other diseases like asthma. Moreover, the facility of good government facility and big school is also missing.
