Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray recently inaugurated the updated bus control room of Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) at Wadala in Mumbai.

In view of the occasion, Minister for Environment, Tourism and Guardian Minister of Mumbai Suburban District Aaditya Thackeray, Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar, Mumbai Municipal Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal, BEST Chairman Pravin Shinde, Additional Commissioner P. Velarasu, BEST General Manager Surendra Bagade were present.

Speaking about the same, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray stated, "Our BEST passenger service is the best as the name implies. BEST employees work irrespective of weather conditions. When other services are disrupted during the monsoons, the BEST remains operational. During the outbreak of the coronavirus, when the world was locked down, BEST ran for its right to transport essential workers. In the fight against coronavirus, the officers and employees of the BEST initiative contributed to the 'BEST'.”

Furthermore, CM Thackeray stated that the BEST's Commanding Center is an innovative idea. This control centre will provide information to the passengers coming from outside. The app will also be useful for the same.

Updated 'Bus Control Panel'

  • Establishment of 'Updated Bus Control Room' at Wadala Bus Depot to control bus service.
  • Integration of the work of the Control Transport Department, Transport Engineering Department and Civil Engineering Department through Control Room.
  • ITMS - Intelligent Transport Management System - Control of bus operation through the computer system.
  • Vehicle Tracking System will be taken from the control room at the spot.
  • In case of any problem on the way, the problem will be resolved by alerting the concerned authorities.
  • In case of any irregularity in the bus service, the concerned Divisional Transport Officers will be immediately instructed to take action.
  • Passengers will be provided with information about the bus service of the project as required. (Toll-Free Service).
  • Newly arrived Mumbai passengers will be given the necessary guidance regarding their next journey.
  • For the convenience of the passengers, BEST has launched the 'Best Travel App', which provides passengers with complete information about their expected bus route, the exact time of arrival of the bus at the bus stand, the current location of the bus as well as the bus routes for passengers to travel to different places in Mumbai.
  • In case of an accident, BEST personnel along with the police, fire brigade, Municipal Corporation and other concerned agencies will be immediately informed and immediate medical treatment will be made available to the injured passengers.
  • Prompt action will be taken from the control room to provide necessary assistance in case of various emergencies such as natural calamities, disruption of suburban railway services.
