Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's troubles have increased due to allegations of 'vote rigging'. After the Karnataka Election Commission sent a notice, now the Maharashtra Election Commission has also sent a notice to Rahul Gandhi.

The notice has directed the government to submit evidence of its allegations along with an affidavit within 10 days.

What exactly is the matter?

Rahul Gandhi had made serious allegations against the Election Commission in a press conference held in Delhi on August 7. He had commented in detail on the issues of confusion in the voter list and 'voting'. The Election Commission had already sent him a letter regarding these allegations, which the Maharashtra Election Commission has now reminded him of.

The reminder states that as per Rule 20(3)(b) of the 'Registration of Electors Rules, 1960', Rahul Gandhi should submit an affidavit in support of his allegations and the names of the voters concerned. The letter also clarified that if this is done, further legal action can be initiated as per the 'Representation of the People Act, 1950' and the 'Registration of Electors Rules, 1960'.
