Minister of State for Social Justice and Special Assistance Dhananjay Munde approved the proposal to build a Babasaheb Ambedkar Cultural Centre in Mira Bhayender Municipal Corporation (MBMC) and Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC). Moreover, the minister has also directed to complete the tender process and start the work immediately. He gave these instructions in a meeting held at the Ministry.
Shiv Sena MLA Pratap Saranaik had demanded that this center should be set up in Thane and Mira Bhayander Municipal Corporation areas only. The building will house a Vipassana center, a library and accommodation, which will benefit Ambedkar followers. While approving both the proposals, the government said it will not allow the funds to be reduced for these centers if need be, testified Social Justice Minister Dhananjay Munde.
On the facility plot of the Municipal Corporation at Anand Nagar within the limits of TMC, Babasaheb Ambedkar Cultural Center will be set up at a cost of INR 9.75 crores. According to reports, 90 per cent of the funds will be available from the state government and 10 per cent of the funds will be provided by Thane Municipal Corporation.
The land of the revenue department in the MBMC has been handed over to the Department of Social Justice and is expected to cost INR 13 crores. Out of which 90 per cent of the cost will be borne by the state government and 10 per cent will be borne by MBMC. These projects have been pending for the last several years in Thane and Mira-Bhayander Municipal Corporation areas which are growing rapidly day by day.
Meanwhile, the MBMC and TMC has also given its approval for the same in a meeting held on Friday, January 28. MLA Pratap Saranaik, Principal Secretary of Social Justice Shyam Tagade, Social Welfare Commissioner Dr. Prashant Naranware, Dinesh Dingle, Mira-Bhayander Commissioner Dr. Vijay Rathod, City Engineer Ravindra Khadtale, Regional Deputy Commissioner Konkan Vandana Kochure etc. were present at the meeting.
