In a recently taken decision, the Chief Justice informed the Supreme Court that a decision will soon be taken on the state government's application to set up a bench for the Maratha reservation. This was stated by the Chief Justice at the request of Mukul Rohatgi, Government Advocate and Senior Advocate in the Maratha Reservation case. Information regarding this was shared by Ashok Chavan, Chairman, Sub-Committee on Maratha Reservation at the cabinet.

Recently, an interim order passed by a three-member bench of the Supreme Court on September 9, 2020, which had affected thousands of students in the state, bringing the recruitment and academic admissions process to halt. Further, the decision has led to many serious consequences.

Keeping these in mind, Mukul Rohatgi requested the Chief Justice to hold an urgent hearing before the bench on the state government's application to quash the interim order. He had also pointed out that the state government had submitted written applications, twice earlier, on October 7 and October 28. Besides this, Ashok Chavan also stated that a written application for the adjournment of the interim order on Maratha reservation had been filed twice so far. and has been submitted for the third time on Monday, November 2, 2020.

Addressing the same, the Chief Justice has said that the application will be considered as soon as possible. 

A three-member bench of the Supreme Court has already directed to refer the matter of Maratha reservation to the bench. Therefore, it was the role of the state government to hear the interim order in this case before the bench. Ashok Chavan had earlier clarified that not only the state government but also many senior lawyers and private intervention petitioners had played the same role.
