The BJP won big in the MLC elections by getting all its 5 nominees elected. On the other hand, while Shiv Sena and NCP got both their candidates elected, Congress only secured one seat.

According to the latest reports, two candidates each of the ruling allies of Shiv Sena and NCP won the Maharashtra Legislative Council polls. On the other hand, all five from the BJP managed to bag a seat. 

Based on accounts, the five candidates from BJP who won the legislative council seats are Pravin Darekar, Ram Shinde, Shrikant Bharatiya, Uma Khapre and Prasad Lad. 

On the other hand, Shiv Sena's Sachin Ahir, Amshya Padvi, NCP's Eknath Khadse and Ramraje Naik Nimbalkar won the seats.

For the Congress, however, it was only Bhai Jagtap who emerged victorious. Chandrakant Handore from the Congress was unable to win a seat.

In the first round of counting, BJP got 4 seats, whilst the NCP and Shiv Sena got 2 each. It was in the second round that BJP got another seat and Congress won one. 

The elections were conducted for ten seats in the council, however, eleven candidates were in the fray. In order to get voted a candidate requires 26 votes. 

The aggregate strength of the Assembly is 288 members of which 285 cast their votes. While one Shiv Sena MLA Ramesh Latke passed away last month, NCP's two MLAs, Anil Deshmukh and Nawab Malik were not permitted to vote. Both are in judicial custody in money-laundering cases.
