The Maharashtra government has taken a significant decision. The Raj Bhavan has been officially renamed as ‘Maharashtra Lok Bhavan’. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis took to Twitter to inform that the decision is in line with the central government’s guiding principles, which aim to make constitutional institutions more people-oriented.
Fadnavis said that ‘Lok Bhavan’ will not be limited to just the residence or office of the Governor, but will be developed as an open space for interaction with citizens, students, researchers, farmers and various sections of society.
Governor Devvrat: “Visionary decision”
Governor Devvrat welcomed the renaming, calling it a “visionary step” that will strengthen transparency and public participation.
He said that the new name has a deeper meaning and the institution will transform to reflect the aspirations, problems and voices of the people.
The Governor stressed that Lok Bhavan should go beyond its traditional role and become a vibrant hub for interaction with civil society, academics, youth and representatives of various communities.
Lok Bhavan: A link between citizens and government
According to the Governor, the main objective behind this change is to make Lok Bhavan a link between the government and the people for communication and collaboration.
He said that the building will not be limited to constitutional functions only. The Governor’s office will now interact more actively with the citizens, address their issues and create a culture of openness.
This decision, he said, reflects the true meaning of the concept of “Lok Bhavan”—an institution that is connected to the public welfare and is sensitive to the hopes, expectations and realities of the common man.
