On Tuesday, August 2, the vehicle of Uday Samant, a former Maharashtra cabinet minister who is presently from Eknath Shinde's faction was attacked by some people in Pune's Katraj Chowk while allegedly passing by a location where Shiv Sena's Aaditya Thackeray had conducted a public meeting earlier, reports stated.

In the aftermath of the incident, Samant while interacting with the media elaborated on how it was a condemnable incident since politics in Maharashtra does not transpire like this. He claimed that the attackers had baseball sticks and stones.

He added that Shinde's convoy was ahead of him and the police will now probe if the attackers were following him or Shinde. Samant declared that he is not frightened by such incidents and that he had spoken to Shinde about the mishap. Further, he is confident that the police will investigate the complete issue.

Samant later took to Twitter to mention, "Yesterday, during the visit of Hon'ble Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to Pune, I was attacked by some persons. There may be ideological differences, but such attacks are not the political culture of Maharashtra. I do not condone such cowardly attacks and I will not stop."

Similarly, reacting to the incident, Shinde voiced that the attack was a cowardly act and it is their responsibility to maintain law and order. He added that if anyone attempts to hinder the law and order, strict action will be taken. He urged all to maintain peace.

A senior police official was quoted in accounts elaborating on how an aggregate of six people has been arrested till now. Moreover, FIRs have been registered against 10 people under the relevant sections of the IPC. Thus, further investigation is underway.
