The statue of the late Meenatai Thackeray, wife of late Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray, at Shivaji Park was defaced. A suspect identified through CCTV cameras was arrested on Wednesday evening in this case. The suspect is being interrogated.

An FIR has been registered at Shivaji Park Police Station under Section 298 of the IPC. The incident, which took place around 6.30 am on Wednesday, left red marks on the statue and its surroundings. This angered Shiv Sena (UBT) workers who gathered at the spot and protested. Reacting strongly, UBT chief Uddhav Thackeray slammed the action as "highly condemnable" and warned that it could be a ploy to create unrest in Maharashtra.

"Such acts are usually committed by those who are ashamed to even mention their parents' names," Thackeray said.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also condemned the incident. He assured that the police will conduct a thorough investigation and arrest the culprits.
