The Sandeep Shinde committee was established last year to examine Kunbi documents of the Maratha community. It has been granted an extension to scrutinise Kunbi records by the Maharashtra government until April 30.

The state government had made it clear that Marathas who could produce old records where they or their ancestors were identified as Kunbi-Maratha would be issued such certificates in response to Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange's demand that Marathas be given Kunbi caste certificates (so that they could avail of OBC quota).

According to a Government Resolution (GR) released on March 13, the committee will need an additional two months to complete its task since it must travel to Hyderabad in order to gather records from the Nizam era and examine the archaeological records in Maharashtra.

During a special session of the state assembly last month, a measure was enacted that will give members of the Maratha community 10% preference in government positions and educational opportunities. A temporary stay on the Maharashtra government's action has been requested in applications submitted to the Bombay High Court by some individuals.

Manoj Jarange Patil's Campaign Politically Motivated?

According to media reports, Manoj Jarange-Patil's Maratha quota campaign is believed to have received funding from "political associates," and he is also accused of making divisive statements while running the campaign.

The Maharashtra State Government had previously stated that a thorough SIT investigation would be carried out to determine the impact of Jarange Patil's campaign for the Maratha Reservation on law and order in the state if it is politically motivated, funded, and designed to incite violence.
