The Congress party is facing a tussle over the Mumbai Youth Congress President after Bandra East MLA Zeeshan Siddique was named the president of the youth wing.

Zeeshan Siddique is the son of former MLA and senior Congress leader Baba Siddique.

While Zeeshan Siddiqui was made the president of the Mumbai Congress, Suraj Thakur was appointed as the working president for the time being.

However, disappointed over the decision, Suraj Thakur resigned from his post.

On Wednesday, August 25, Thakur addressed a letter to Rahul Gandhi in which he recalled his 14-year-long journey with the party and expressed his disappointment for being sidelined.

This development comes just a few weeks after infighting in the Maharashtra Congress unit came to the fore over Nana Patole's role. Indicating Congress' growing discomfort in MVA, the party has repeatedly asserted in the last few months that they will be fighting solo in the BMC polls next year.

Recently, Bhai Jagtap was appointed as the Mumbai Congress President. The party said that these changes are being considered very important for the upcoming BMC elections.

Voting took place in the first round for the post of Mumbai Congress President, in which Suraj Thakur got around 74,000 votes while MLA Zeeshan Siddiqui got more than 80,000 votes. After which the Delhi High Command handed over the command of Mumbai Youth Congress President to MLA Zeeshan Siddiqui.

Zeeshan Siddiqui had raised a question mark on the functioning of Mumbai Congress President Bhai Jagtap a few days ago, due to which he also came into the limelight. However, senior party leaders then ended the controversy by calling it an internal matter of the party.
