After Environment Minister Ramdas Kadam attacked Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray for standing against the plastic ban, Thackeray on Tuesday attacked the government and said that people should refuse to pay fine for using plastic.

The MNS chief has asked the government to give people an alternative to plastic and only then the government should impose the plastic ban and charge penalty. Taunting the municipal corporation and state government, Thackeray said that firstly, they should provide convenience for the people to dispose of their garbage and then teach people common sense.

Criticising the penalty structure, the MNS chief said that people don’t carry ₹5,000 in their pockets. “If someone comes to collect the fine, refuse to pay the same,” he said appealing to the people to not pay the penalty.

While addressing the press conference at his residence, Thackeray alleged that ahead of the elections, the state government is collecting funds through this plastic ban from the plastic manufacturers. MNS chief said that the government should make people aware of the banned plastic and inform them about the alternatives.

People have not been informed properly as it is an integral part of their lives. So, they shall be given alternate and proper information, Thackeray added. He further said that if you want to ban plastic, ban all of it and don’t create confusion.

Reacting to Kadam’s remark, Thackeray said that the Environment Minister should discuss his work and talk about the reducing pollution from rivers. The plastic ban is government’s decision, don’t talk about relations here, MNS chief asserted.
