The High Court on Friday quashed the case and charge sheet filed against Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Raj Thackeray in connection with allegations of violation of code of conduct during the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation elections in 2010. So, Raj is relieved.


Raj was in the constituency even after the period of permission given to stay in the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation limits. They were accused of violating the election code of conduct by doing so. After the State Election Commission issued a show-cause notice to Raj, the police registered a case and charge sheet against him. Raj had approached the High Court seeking quashing of the crime and the charge sheet. The court reserved its decision on their petition.

A bench of Justice Ajay Gadkari and Justice Sharmila Deshmukh accepted Raj's demand while ruling on his plea on Friday. Also, the case and charge sheet against them were quashed. Meanwhile, the State Election Commission had issued a notice to Raj under the Representation of the People Act, 1951. According to the law, political leaders are not allowed to be in the polling area for 48 hours before the election.
