The MoU between the World Economic Forum and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has brought Mumbai's dream of becoming a global financial hub within reach. This will double the region's gross domestic product (GDP) in the coming years. The transformation of Mumbai will bring about important changes in Maharashtra and the country as well. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde expressed his belief that Mumbai will become the finance and technology (Fintech) capital in the future, while Mumbai will be among the seven important metropolises of the world, said Klaus Schwab, president of the World Economic Forum.


The Chief Minister was speaking on the occasion of the release of the NITI Aayog report on developing the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) as a 'Global Economic Hub' and the MoU between the MMRDA and the World Economic Forum. A very important concept for Mumbai is being launched during Ganeshotsav. It was the dream of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region to become a global financial hub. Stating that it is being realised, Shinde said, Mumbai is a lifeline for all of us. If Mumbai changes, there will be changes in Maharashtra and the country too.

The Economic Advisory Council has presented the plan for the development of the state. NITI Aayog has come forward with the concept that this plan will get strength. Shinde also expressed his belief that Mumbai will become the capital of information technology in the near future. The Chief Minister also said that a special central cell is being established in MMRDA to realise the concept of MMR Global Financial Centre.


Maharashtra has a favourable environment for industries. Facilities are being provided to investors. Maharashtra is the first state in the country to receive foreign investment. Shinde also mentioned that Maharashtra is leading in employment, startups and clean energy.


Historical moment, says Fadnavis

NITI Aayog has brought such a very important report at the right time. Both the report and the MoU are said to be historic moments. This will bring about a radical change in the lives of the citizens. Economic development planning can do justice to many sectors. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that in the last few years, we have focused on promoting various works including infrastructure in Mumbai.
