Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Thursday, September 16, said that Navi Mumbai international airport will be operational in 2024 and that its naming controversy will be resolved soon.

He said GVK Group, a leading corporate entity that is constructing the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), is financially sound.

Pawar made these statements in Navi Mumbai on Thursday, September 16, at CIDCO Bhavan to take stock of various city-related issues.

He was talking to the media after reviewing various development projects in Navi Mumbai, including the airport and metro rail.

"I do not see that they (GVK) will face any problem. We have been given the target of 2024 for airport completion. We will be reviewing the work periodically," he was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

Pawar said if there are any issues pertaining to the state government related to the airport project, they will be resolved.

He asked state-run planning agency CIDCO to provide facilities for charging electric vehicles in upcoming projects.

Pawar said CIDCO should plan housing and other projects keeping in mind the 25-year horizon.

While allotting houses the CIDCO should ensure the common man is able to pay maintenance charges, he added.

Moreover, he has also questioned the morality of the Central government, accused Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Sudhir Mungatiwar of having two different opinions on GST, and also questioned Cidco on its housing and project-affected people (PAP) rehabilitation plans.
