On Saturday, April 17, Maharashtra Minister and NCP leader Nawab Malik lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi in view of the alarming surge in the number of COVID-19 cases and deaths.

According to reports, the NCP leader stated that if PM Modi wants to take credit for the COVID-19 vaccine, he should also take responsibility for deaths too further adding that if the vaccination certificates carry PM Modi's photo, then the death certificates of the COVID-19 victims should also carry his image.

Moreover, speaking to the media, Nawab Malik stated, "The way PM Modi's photo is put on vaccination certificates, we demand that PM's photo should be put on death certificates also. If they are taking credit for COVID-19 vaccination, then, they will have to take responsibility for deaths too."

In addition, he stated, "As the number of COVID cases are rising in the country, the number of deaths are also increasing on large scale. The way videos are going viral that funeral sites are running out of space to accommodate the dead, and people are in queues. The Centre is answerable for the present situation arisen due to the circumstances and it cannot run away from answering it.”

On the other hand, the BJP recently slammed the Maharashtra government lead by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and said that the officials are hiding the death toll in these areas.

Sharing more information, BJP leader and former MP Kirit Somaiya claimed that the government is manipulating the numbers while presenting them to the people. As per reports, between April 1 and 13, 2021, a total of 201 patients died of coronavirus in Vasai-Virar city. However, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has shown only 23 deaths. Meanwhile, 57 coronavirus deaths have been reported in Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) area, whereas 309 people have been cremated in cemeteries, mentioned Somaiya.
