The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), an umbrella organisation of 40 farmer unions, had called for Bharat Bandh to protest against the three farm laws passed by the Parliament last year.

Today, September 27, the country had observed a 10-hour strike from 6 am to 4 pm called by farmers as they were protesting against three farm laws.

However, it came to light that the shops, the local transport were all operating as usual in Mumbai. No extra security was deployed in the city, said Mumbai police, adding that Monday's Bharat Bandh did not significantly impact the city.

On the other hand, in Maharashtra, several opposition parties extended their support for Bharat Bandh, while some even asked their workers to join the strike.

The Mumbai Congress and NCP had also supported the Bharat Bandh, and Mumbai Congress chief Bhai Jagtap told that people are given false promises, and the Centre has brought in three anti-farm laws.

At Kherwadi signal in Bandra East, a symbolic tractor was organised for the protest, said Zeeshan Siddique, Chief of Mumbai Youth Congress.

Congress workers were seen in Andheri and Jogeshwari, holding placards and shouted slogans against the farm bills. Few Mumbaikars were also seen supporting Bharat Bandh.

Nawab Malik, NCP minister and spokesperson, led his party workers in Bharat Bandh and participated in a protest at the Sion Circle in Sion East.

In Maharashtra, few protestors who were detained in some places were released late. In Pune, APMC remained shut while Nagpur saw a road blockage staged by the pro-framers' unit.

The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) called the Bharat Bandh to mark the first anniversary of the three farm laws, passed on September 27, 2020.

Since November last year, farmers have been protesting near Delhi against the farm laws, demanding the government to scrap them. To intensify their protest, they had done a rally on Republic Day.

Bharat Bandh seems to be their last resort to demand the government to scrap the three laws.
