On the second day of the winter session of the Legislative Assembly, former CM and Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly,  Devendra Fadnavis, slammed the Thackeray government again over the Aarey car shed issue. Questioning the move, he asked the government about the decision taken regarding the change in Aarey Car shed, thereby wishing to understand the motive. He further asked about the time frame planned for the project and the money to be spent on the damages caused

A few months ago, CM Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) decided to shift the metro car shed for Mumbai Metro, from Aarey to Kanjurmarg. The decision was taken to protect the environment, however, BJP leaders criticized the government regarding this decision.

But, despite the criticism, the site has been handed over to MMRDA and permission has been granted to build a car shed which will be used for both Metro 3 and Metro 6 routes.

While the construction of Metro Car Shed has started on 102 acres of land in Kanjurmarg, the Central Government's Department of Industry and Trade Promotion (DPIIT) has claimed the land and DPIIT recently sent a letter to the state government demanding a stay on the construction work. With this move, politics has started once again, which as per reports, could have delayed the project. Understanding the same, the state government refuted the claim and continued the work.

Commenting on this, Fadnavis and other leaders from the BJP stated that though the work began during their rule, the project can be completed on time today. Questioning the same, the leaders demanding reasons behind the difficulties faced, and the decisions which held the government back. Further, they also questioned the decision taken to change the Aarey Car shed.

Sharing his thoughts, Fadnavis stated that the Aarey car shed in question was not about either of the parties, but the question was related to the lives of Mumbaikars. Addressing the same, he requested the government to not take revenge against Mumbai. Adding more, he said that the state government's decision to shift the metro car shed was unfortunate; and had informed that a committee to be set up by the same government if Metro car shed is taken to Kanjur Marg, as it would have to suffer an additional cost of INR 4,000 crores.

He alleged that the project which would have been ready for Mumbaikars by 2021 next year has now been postponed indefinitely, whereby INR 400 crores has already been spent for Aarey's car shed and INR 1,300 crores has been lost due to the government's moratorium.
