CM Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadhi (MVA) government experienced victory in the recently held elections held for six seats in the graduates, teachers and local self-governing constituency of the Legislative Council. Results revealed that the MVA government defeated the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in some seats.

Reacting to this Devendra Fadnavis, Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly, has admitted that the combined power of the Mahavikas Aghadi has failed to gauge the defeat. Speaking to the media after the results were announced, Devendra Fadnavis said, "We did not get the expected success in the Legislative Council elections and were expecting more seats. But we could win only one seat. We miscalculated the number of votes and did not recognise the combined strength of the three parties in the MVA government.

The counting of votes for the assembly elections held on December 1, 2020, was held on December 3, 2020. Three parties - Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress - had decided to contest the elections in the teacher-graduate constituency together, and according to the results, Congress and NCP have won three seats in four out of six graduate-teacher constituencies.

The BJP had to settle for one seat and party candidate Amrish Patel won in Dhule-Nandurbar constituency. Meanwhile, NCP's Satish Chavan and Pune's Arun Lad won in the Aurangabad graduate constituency, and with this MVA candidates won the prestigious graduate constituencies of Nagpur and Pune. With this, BJP also faced defeat in Pune constituency after 20 years.

This election marks a big victory for the MVA  government and leaders from politics have said that the decision to contest the by-elections together has proven to be successful.
