Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stones of eight Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) projects in Maharashtra’s Solapur district. This will take place at a public event, which will be held on January 19, 2024, around 10:45 am. In an official statement, it mentioned that the total cost of projects can go up to INR 2,000 crore.

 Purpose Of AMRUT Projects:

  • Make certain that every home has a sewage connection and a tap with a reliable supply of water.

  • By creating greenery and well-kept open spaces, cities can raise their amenity value.

  • Use public transportation or build infrastructure for non-motorised transportation to cut down on pollution.

The Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) has established indicators and standards in the form of Service Level Benchmarks (SLBs) for all of these outcomes, which are highly valued by the public.

Over 90,000 PMAY-Urban homes in Maharashtra will be dedicated by the prime minister to those in need at this public event in Solapur. Along with this, PM Modi will also dedicate 15,000 houses of Raynagar Housing Society in Solapur, whose beneficiaries comprise thousands of vendors, Bidi workers, handloom workers, power loom workers, drivers, and rag pickers, among others.

During the event, the Prime Minister will also begin distributing the first and second instalments to 10,000 Maharashtra-based PM-SVANidhi beneficiaries.

After laying the foundation stones for eight AMRUT projects and distributing instalments of PM-SVANidhi, PM Modi will inaugurate the opening ceremony of the Khelo India Youth Games 2023 in Chennai. He will launch the revamped DD Podhigai channel as DD Tamil and also lay the foundation stone and launch projects for strengthening the broadcasting sector worth INR 250 crore. He will also inaugurate the new state-of-the-art Boeing India Engineering & Technology Centre campus in Bengaluru.

On January 12, PM Narendra Modi inaugurated Atal Setu, the longest sea bridge in the country. Atal Setu connects Mumbai and its satellite township, Navi Mumbai. At the inauguration event in Mumbai, PM Modi said that this is a glimpse of what a developed India will look like.

For the unversed, the PM Modi introduced this initiative in June 2015, under the direction of the Ministry of Urban Development. The goal of the urban renewal projects is to build the necessary infrastructure to guarantee sufficient, reliable sewage networks and water supplies for the transformation of urban areas. The plan is predicated on the public-private partnership (PPP) paradigm.
