Ahead of Maharashtra Assembly and Lok Sabha elections next year, All India Congress Committee (AICC) secretary Priya Dutt was removed from her post on Monday. Dutt, daughter of Sunil Dutt and sister of Sanjay Dutt, has been a part of Congress party for many years now and a former parliamentarian too.

For the last few days, the internal conflict in Mumbai Congress has been escalating. Earlier on September 16, several senior leaders met AICC general secretary Mallikarjun Kharge demanding to replace Mumbai Congress President Sanjay Nirupam with Milind Murli Deora.

There are political speculations that this decision has been taken after Priya Dutt supported Nirupam during the meeting of two factions – supports of late Congress leaders, Gurudas Kamat and Murli Deora – with Kharge. According to sources, during the meeting, Dutt had distanced herself from the demand to remove Nirupam from MRCC president post.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi office issued to the decision to remove Dutt from her post. Apart from politics, Dutt is also involved in social work and for a while, her focus has been her social work.
