Prudent Electoral Trust has contributed political donations to Congress as well but the difference is huge. The highest donation to Congress was made in the year 2017 worth ₹14 crore

As per the information received by Election Commission of India, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has received almost ₹400 crore donation in the year 2017-18, while Congress was conferred with only ₹26 crore. With these numbers, BJP has become the richest political party in India and the figures can increase until the end of the year 2018. 

Both the national political parties have not filed their tax returns and balance sheet. Moreover, the announcement of their electoral bond is still pending. According to a contribution report by Prudent Electoral Trust, BJP has been the biggest beneficiary of the electoral trust in getting political donations from the corporates.

Of ₹169 crore, the richest electoral trust has donated ₹144 crore to BJP which amounts to almost 85 per cent of their total income. The corporates have paid a hefty amount to the trust, DLF Group has paid the trust ₹52 crore followed by Bharti group which paid ₹33 crore.

Other corporate companies including Shroff group UPL has paid ₹22 crore to the trust followed by ₹20 crore donation of Gujarat’s Torrent Group. According to the report, DCM Shriram Group has also paid ₹13 crore to the electoral trust.

Of its total collection of ₹726.13 crore, the electoral trust has donated ₹594.37 crore to BJP since its formation in the year 2014. The contribution made by the trust to Congress has been minimal with the highest political donation of ₹14 crore in the financial year 2017.
