On Friday, January 27, the guardian minister for Mumbai suburbs, Mangal Prabhat Lodha announced the decision to remove Tipu Sultan’s name from Malad’s garden.

Opposing the move, Shaikh told India Today that it is not the job of a guardian minister to change the name of gardens that fall under the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). He further added that the BMC holds the right to change the name and local corporators should decide about the names.
