Maharashtra Congress President Ashok Chavan and Mumbai Congress President Sanjay Nirupam on Monday congratulated 21 political parties which participated in Congress-led Bharat Bandh in order to fight the consistent hike in fuel prices.

BJP should stop lying to the people as they claim that bringing fuel prices under GST is beyond their control. While the BJP is in power in more than 22 states today, they can curb the fuel prices and the taxes levied on fuel whenever they want. But they've only been increasing the fuel prices since the last 4 years, which clearly is anti-people," said Mumbai Congress President Sanjay Nirupam while targeting the BJP Govt for its failure in curbing the fuel prices.

Today's bandh was not only a massive success but it also proved that the power of calling bandh in Mumbai does not lie only with the Shiv Sena. The city has witnessed violence everytime Shiv Sena has tried to call for a bandh. But today's peaceful protest has put an end to this belief. Shops below the Shiv Sena Bhawan too were shut as the shop owners participated in the bandh. The Shiv Sena has always been critical of the BJP Govt. But they haven't gone beyond mounting hoardings stating the same. This isn't enough. They need to walk out of the alliance and do something concrete for the people of Mumbai and Maharashtra," Nirupam further added.

BJP Leader Ravi Shankar Prasad today stated that the Govt cannot bring down the fuel prices. This reflects their incompetence and further proves that the BJP Govt has failed miserably. If they cannot bring down the fuel prices, how will they solve the problems of the people?" said Maharashtra Congress President Ashok Chavan.

The Congress Party thanked the common people, businessmen, party workers, party leaders and 21 other political parties for supporting the Bandh and making it a huge success. As the nation is battling inflation today, the prices of petrol and diesel have only been on the rise despite the prices of crude oil falling internationally. During the UPA Regime, the price of crude oil was $107.09 per barrel which has fallen to $73 per barrel today.

Also, the prices of petrol and Diesel were ₹71.41 per litre and ₹55.49 per litre under the Congress rule which has now reached ₹79.51 per litre and ₹71.55 per litre respectively as of September 2018. The excise duty levied by the on petrol was ₹9.20 per litre under the UPA-led Govt which has reached ₹20 per litre today. The excise duty levied on diesel too is ₹18 per litre today which was ₹3.46 per litre under the UPA rule.
