Amid the intense speculations of a possible reunion between Shiv Sena and BJP, both parties have made several statements. One such was made by Shiv Sena MP, Sanjay Raut who stated that whilst the political ways of the parties differ, their bond of friendship continues to remain intact. He also went on to elucidate that the current alliance government in Maharashtra is not breaking up and will go on to serve the full term.

He went on to compare the relationship between both the parties to that of Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao’s relationship and said that the ties between the parties were not that of India and Pakistan. This comment comes in the backdrop of Aamir and Kiran announcing their divorce last weekend. Some claim that the statement was made in a rebuttal to former Chief Minister and BJP leader, Devendra Fadnavis comments. Fadnavis mentioned that while in politics there are no ifs and buts, the parties are not enemies even though they have political differences and further decisions will be undertaken as the situation permits. He said on Sunday that both the parties fought the election together and it was only after the results that the Shiv Sena decided to join hands with Congress and NCP.

Reports of strain between the current coalition have been doing the rounds which have added fuel to the fire of a possible reconciliation between BJP and Shiv Sena. These claims began right after the Chief Minister, met with the Prime Minister last month. After this meeting, Sanjay Raut was quoted hailing PM Modi as the top leader of the country. He cited that while both spoke for 40 minutes, there is no need to speculate unification since both parties are on different paths. He said that even though the BJP is in the opposition and the Shiv Sena is in power, there are strong personal ties between the Thackeray family and PM Modi. He also went on to draw a contrast with the Pawar family, with whom despite earlier differences, personal ties remained graceful. He says that it’s within Maharashtra’s culture to keep relationships in place.
